We are excited that the industry will continue to benefit from Tom’s work to promote and further organizations such as ITA, AWWA, WEF, and ISA and that Tom is able to be in a leadership role with these organizations while continuing in his key role at Eramosa.

ITA’s Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Thomas J. DeLaura, P.E. of Detroit Michigan as ITA’s Executive Director.
The Board’s decision comes with the fullest confidence that Tom will continue to be an excellent steward of ITA’s mission and an advocate for objective testing and research. The Board recognizes that Tom is a leader who, with nearly 40 years’ experience in the water/wastewater industry, from both a utility and consultant perspective, is the right person to pursue its members’ policy agenda for ITA. As an active volunteer in many non-profits both professionally and personally, Tom has demonstrated with his career commitments that he understands what it means to serve the water industry.
Tom, a Professional Engineer with a BSEE degree from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, served as a Control Systems Engineer and Manager for the City of Detroit Water and Sewerage Department and was responsible for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, instrumentation, control and management information computer systems projects, as well as daily operation and maintenance of monitoring and control systems.
Tom has also served as a consultant, and managed and served on various SCADA, instrumentation, control and automation projects at numerous water and wastewater utilities throughout the United States and internationally in Canada and Australia.
Tom is very involved in other non-profit professional associations in the water and wastewater industry including the American Water Works Association (AWWA); Water Environment Federation (WEF); and the International Society of Automation (ISA) Water & Wastewater Division, in which he has volunteered on various technical committees and research projects, and presented numerous technical conference papers on subjects ranging from cyber security to instrument analysis to demonstrating specific utility projects. He has also volunteered as an author for various technical publications regarding SCADA, instrumentation, automation and control technologies.
Tom has received numerous professional awards for his work in the industry including awards from WEF, the Michigan Water Environment Association and the Michigan Section of AWWA.
Tom will be contacting all ITA members individually over the next several months to introduce himself, become familiar with your utility, discuss ITA’s current projects and understand how ITA can help address your instrumentation and automation needs.
