JANUARY 2011

The construction of two new bedrock wells at the Arkell Spring Grounds in the City of Guelph has recently been completed.  As part of the project, Eramosa Engineering provided SCADA integration services for the two new wells including RSLogix 500 PLC and GE Proficy iFix HMI programming. GE QuickPanel OITs were also installed at three existing wells in addition to the two new wells to provide both local monitoring functions and redundant data logging. A new well field control strategy was implemented as part of the project which included five wells at the Spring Grounds. All five wells now function together in response to changing reservoir levels at the F.M. Woods Pumping Station. Eramosa also provided site start-up and commissioning services as well as training for the City’s operations team. The new well field control strategy will provide added benefit for the City as a new Operation Testing Program (OTP) is implemented in order to assess the effect of increasing the production from the Arkell Spring Grounds.

NOVEMBER 2010

Welcome to Movember! Several team members have taken up the cause for prostate cancer research by growing moustaches much to the chagrin of their significant others. Sightings of Tom Selleck and Burt Reynolds are being reported on a regular basis!

In November Eramosa is also pleased to announce that our team, as a sub consultant to Associated Engineering, has been awarded the Oakville WPP Phase II Upgrade contract. Eramosa will be responsible for the electrical and control system design for the filter area upgrades as well as the SCADA upgrades for the proposed filter, low lift, and high lift modifications, including all PLC/HMI development. Additionally, Eramosa has been awarded the SCADA design and oversight assignment for the Mount Pleasant Reservoir and Pump Station upgrades in the County of Brant.  Brant County continues to entrust Eramosa to be their representative on their projects to maintain consistency in the SCADA system implementation so that sites are fully integrated and validated throughout the County as they are brought online.

SEPTEMBER 2010

Eramosa recently completed the Tri-County SCADA upgrades under an engineering and construction assignment for OCWA Engineering. The Tri-County includes the Municipality of West Elgin, the Municipality of Southwest Middlesex and the Municipality of Dutton/Dunwich. The Tri-County water distribution system includes eight (8) valve chambers, three (3) standpipes two (2) elevated tanks and one (1) reservoir and pumping station. The project included the design and installation of a new 2.4GHz IP based high speed radio SCADA network to replace the existing dial-up system and the design and installation of new Allen-Bradley PLC controllers to replace the existing Bristol Babcock Network 3000 controllers which had become obsolete.  Eramosa worked with a local telecommunications company for the installation, testing and commissioning of the new wireless SCADA network. The new network greatly increased the update times and throughput as compared to the old dial-up network.
