Niagara Region, OntarioEramosa has been involved in a number of projects within the Niagara Region, including significant upgrades to water treatment facilities, design-build assignments, electrical equipment replacement, and the development of special reports.

Currently our team is working with the Region and R.V. Anderson Associates Limited to upgrade the Rosehill Water Treatment Plant to replace aging equipment, lower operating and maintenance costs, improve safety and accessibility throughout the plant, and provide suitable working areas for plant personnel. Major upgrades as part of the project include replacement of the existing high lift pumps, backwash pumps, motor control centers (MCCs), and PLC control panels. A new electrical substation will be constructed to replace the current one. An addition to the administrative area will be added and the existing section will also be upgraded as part of the project. Detailed design is expected to be completed in 2015 with construction commencing in 2016. Eramosa will be responsible for the instrumentation and control, and complete network design as well as all PLC and SCADA programming during construction.

Eramosa is also teaming with CIMA+ to undertake upgrades to the Welland Vale Sewage Pumping Station (SPS) in St. Catharines, Carleton Street SPS in Thorold, and Park Lane SPS in Pelham. Upgrades to all three (3) stations include architectural and structural maintenance improvements, replacement of aging process mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation equipment, improved control systems, and a force main replacement for the Welland Vale station. Eramosa completed the design for the new PLC panels at each facility including outdoor enclosures at Welland Vale and Park Lane. Once construction for each station begins, Eramosa will be responsible for all SCADA system integration for the facilities including Allen-Bradley CompactLogix and MicroLogix PLC programming, GE QuickPanel View Operator Interface (OIT) programming, and GE Proficy iFIX Human Machine Interface (HMI)/SCADA system integration at the Port Dalhousie, Port Weller, and Welland Wastewater Treatment Plants. The project has an expected completion date of Fall 2017.

Another current project we are working on with the City and R.V. Anderson Associates Limited is upgrading billing meters for the DeCew and Niagara Falls facilities. In order to reduce water loss and provide greater accuracy for flow and billing data, the Region initiated a Master Meter Replacement Program in 2010. As part of the recommendations made from this program, several billing meters in the DeCew and Niagara Falls distribution systems were identified for replacement. As a component of the project, Eramosa is responsible for all electrical, instrumentation and control design, and SCADA programming. Several chambers require new above grade electrical and control enclosures which will contain remote transmitters for the upgraded flowmeters. This will ensure that operations staff are not required to enter confined spaces to view the flow data from the meter directly. The new electrical and control enclosures will be equipped with Allen-Bradley CompactLogix programmable automation controllers. This will allow remote monitoring of the flow and ancillary chamber data via the SCADA systems located at the Decew Falls and Niagara Falls water treatment plants. The completion date for this project is Spring 2016.

Completed projects with Niagara Region included upgrades to the Dominion Road SPS, improvements to the Industrial Park SPS, upgrades to the Stevensville/Douglastown Lagoons, and renovations to systems at the Grimsby Water Treatment Plant.
